RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE
Real-Life Fall Video Sources
Research footage can help explain what happens during a loss of balance. These links take you to the original researchers and their resources.
The Archive Behind The Walker Study
Stephen Robinovitch’s 2018 Databrary collection, Falls Experienced by Older Adult Residents in Long-Term Care Homes, is the source referenced by the walker analysis.
Simon Fraser University describes 300 fall videos involving 118 residents aged 58 to 98 in two British Columbia care homes. Filming took place in shared lounges, dining rooms and hallways. The university describes the collection as a resource for research and education.
Some recordings require authorised research access. We have not verified which publicly accessible recordings show the particular walker falls analysed in the paper.
University Educational Videos
The Injury Prevention and Mobility Laboratory also publishes educational videos developed with AGE-WELL support and used in the Canadian Falls Prevention Curriculum and Fraser Health training.
Watch on the university’s educational video page ↗The educational collection and raw study recordings are separate resources. We have not labelled individual clips as walker footage without reviewing them.
Why The Recordings Remain With The Researchers
Permission to view a research recording does not automatically permit downloading, editing or using it to promote a product. Commercial reuse and hosting require the relevant permissions. We link to the original resources and preserve the researchers’ context.
